While installing Kaspersky Pure Total Security you may choose “Custom installation” for additional parameters and on this stage you should agree with KSN (Kaspersky Security Network). What is KSN? For example you are trying to install new software that may seem suspicious to Kaspersky antivirus software then the software checks reviews on this software from KSN and sends you the results. They include the number of users who have installed it and was it actually treated as malicious software or not. The procedure takes several seconds so it will not slows down installation at all.

The first launch of the program took about 15-20 seconds though the software warned me about it. The main window of Kaspersky Total Security 2012 looks quite different in comparison with Kaspersky Internet Security 2012. Here you will see two new features which differ Total Security from Internet Security, they are Backup and restore and Password Manager.
Backup and Restore. You may select desktop, My Documents folder, entire partitions or separate files and folders to backup. Alternatively you may select backup files by categories: video, audio, images, documents, financial documents. Note that it is not possible to backup entire operating system, applications settings or e-mail, you may use Acronis True Image Home software for that purpose.

Backup storage includes external disk, flash drive, local hard drive, network drive and FTP server.
Step-by-step guide how to create a backup and save it on external drive using Kaspersky Pure
- From the main program window choose Backup and Restore
- Under Backup Task Management click “Create”
- Choose location of files, it can be either entire Desktop, My Documents folder or entire partition. If you want to backup specific folder click on “Add folder”

- On the next stage you can password-protect the backup. Note that if you forget the password recovery will be impossible

Also you can set storage period for the file versions, the last saved version of the file will be stored indefinitely
