AVG Internet Security 2024 Review and antivirus comparison
When you run the 67 Mb installation file of AVG Internet Security 2024 you have two additional options to install:
- Use AVG Secure Search as default search provider
- Improve Internet protection with the AVG security toolbar. This include checking dangerous websites and pages with AVG LinkScanner technology, checking Facebook messages with one click.
The only thing I didn’t really like on the stage of the installation is the reboot required at the end. Actually it is not critical but I tested many others antivirus software and I can say for sure that such brands like Kaspersky, BitDefender, Avast, McAfee and others didn’t require it.
Right after the reboot I saw the following screenshot:
I run McAfee Total Security 2024 on the tested PC (wmware) and as you can see AVG Internet Security detected McAfee Core NDIS Intermediate Filter Miniport adapter. Though this is just firewall network type selection incompatibility drivers of two antivirus software may lead to malfunction of the whole system so I don’t recommend running two antivirus programs simultaneously.
The first impression when you start AVG antivirus software is the resemblance of the user interface with the previous version of the program. The only noticeable change the developers of AVG Internet Security 2024 made is the remove of Spyware tab on the main program window. The user interface is very easy to use with intuitive navigation through different tabs.

AVG Internet Security 2024 Memory Usage
Internet Security doesn’t use much memory but has a lot of processes. When the software is idle the following processes are running:
- avgui.exe (7.7 Mb)
- avgnsx.exe (500 Kb)
- AVGIDSAgent.exe (10.6 Mb)
- avgcsrvx.exe (300 Kb)
- avgrsx.exe (600 Kb)
- avgwdsvc.exe (4.5 Mb)
- avgtray.exe (4.5 Mb)
- avgfws.exe (20 Mb)
The overall approximate memory usage is about 48.7 Mb, well actually it is a little bit more if we compare other Internet Security software eg. Kaspersky Internet Security 2024 (avp.exe) about 17 Mb or BitDefender Internet Security 2024 with (bdagent.exe and seccenter.exe) about 3.5 Mb.
When I started the whole computer scan the memory usage didn’t increase much and all processes showed almost the same levels.
AVG Internet Security 2024 features comparison vs Kaspersky and BitDefender
I found this antivirus software very easy to use but with the full set of options you need to feel yourself secure in the modern Internet life. The main features and the options of the program are the following:
- Antivirus. Protects your system from all know threats including viruses, Trojans, spyware and worms.
- LinkScanner. Protection from web attacks while you are surfing the Internet.
- Email Protection. You can be absolutely sure that outgoing and incoming emails are clear and spam free.
- Firewall. Blocks unwanted traffic from the Internet and protects your PC.
- Anti-rootkit. When active the software automatically searches and delete rootkits.
- System Tools. The set of tools for advanced users which shows running processes, network connections, IE. extensions and other information on your computer.
- PC Analyzer. Check registry errors, broken shortcuts, improperly removed applications, junk files, etc.
- Identity Protection. Be sure that online shopping will be secure, protection from online theft.
The overall set of features in AVG Internet Security 2024 is less in comparison with Kaspersky Internet Security 2024 or BitDefender Internet Security 2024. I haven’t found in AVG such useful options like virtual keyboard in Kaspersky or Virtual browser in BitDefender. Scanning the system in rescue mode is also impossible in AVG but in favor of this software I can mention PC Analyzer option which you won’t see in Kaspersky or BitDefender.
Conclusion
I always like to check av-test reports after my own research and I found the following rating for AVG Internet Security 2024: protection 5.0 out of 6.0, repair 4.5 out of 6.0 and usability 5.0 out of 6.0. Repair means the ability to delete viruses from already infected system. Well the results are above the average and I completely agree with my own tests. The software doesn’t slow down the system performance, full system scan is pretty quick, memory usage is acceptable.
