The installation was not smooth as I faced the following error message: “BitDefender 2012 cannot be installed on your operating system”.
My test operating system is Windows XP SP2 and BitDefender Internet Security 2012 cannot be installed on SP2, so you have to update it to SP3. Here is Microsoft KB article how to update service pack.
BitDefender Internet Security 2012 is one of the best antivirus and antimalware software you can find on the market today. According to AV-Test.org statistic Bitdefender is the leader among antivirus software and protection against malware infection.

If you have used the previous versions of BitDefender the first thing you would note about the new version would be the new interface in comparison with Internet Security 2011. Completely redesigned it looks more professional and easier to use.
In terms of memory usage I have found the following running BitDefender processes:
- bdagent.exe (BitDefender Agent) about 2 Mb of memory usage
- odscanui.exe (BitDefender Antivirus Scanner) about 72 Mb of memory usage
- seccenter.exe (BitDefender Security Center) about 1 Mb of memory usage.
As you can see the software is not very "heavy" in system requirements.

- Network map. Configure and manage BitDefender products installed on other computers in your home network.
- SafeGo. Protection in social media like Facebook and Twitter, Monitors your privacy settings and inbound links.
- Rescue Mode. In case the software has found some threats that cannot be deleted under Windows you can use the rescue mode option to reboot your computer in Linux environment and delete them.
- Virtual browser. In order to block web based threats BitDefender uses its own browser.

Though Bitdefender Internet Security 2012 allows you to boot into rescue mode you cannot create Bitdefender rescue disc which will be of much help in case your computer is completely unbootable due to virus or malware affect. Bitdefender rescue disc can be ordered at a low price in your shopping cart in a bundle with the license.
